Many women who are victims of abuse are prevented from leaving a situation due to poverty or economic abuse. Listed below are some options in Nanaimo to support women.

Telus’ Mobility for Good for Indigenous Women at Risk program: provides free smartphones and data plans to Indigenous women at risk of or surviving violence. In Nanaimo the program is available through Tillicum Lelum.

The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP): provides a range of benefits to assist victims, immediate family members of victims and certain witnesses in coping with the effects of violent crime, where same or similar benefits are not available from another source.

Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS’s): Stand Informed legal advice services provides up to 3 hours of free and confidential legal advice to anyone who has experienced sexual assault in BC and resides in BC.

Cedar Woman House: Safe shelter for women and children.

Haven Society Nanaimo: Offers shelter for women and children escaping abuse, as well as community programs.

BC Income Assistance Information & Links: Financial support for BC residents who are not working. Also provides crisis supplements.

Island Crisis Care Society: Samaritan Place: Crisis services for women who need shelter and support.
