PAN offers a children’s food program for low-income families in Nanaimo.
Every two weeks, S4K participants receive a Snack Pack: a bundle of children’s snacks, easy to prepare lunch foods, and treats for school lunches.
Delivery within Nanaimo city limits is available.
This program ties client participation to learning about and using local resources. Our goal is to see our client families improve their overall quality of life.
S4K enrolls 10 families for a 4 month period.
No proof of income or address is required. Participant families must include at least one child between the ages of two and sixteen.
Prior to program start, parents/guardians must book and complete a one hour admission interview with PAN (phone, virtual or in person).
After the admission interview, PAN will compile a resource recommendation report customized for the client family, and share it via email to the parents/guardians. A printable copy will also be made available.
Over the course of their four month participation in the program, PAN will check in with the parent/guardians once per week to offer support accessing the recommended local resources in their report. PAN can help with answering questions, printing and completing applications, making phone calls, navigating online processes, and more.
PAN reserves the right to discontinue supporting a family prior to program end if the parents/guardians are not communicating with volunteers or participating in accessing supports.
The expectation is that after participating for four months, families are able to move on from receiving S4K Snack Packs, better equipped for surviving on a low-income in Nanaimo.
Clients are accepted via referral process from the Nanaimo Child Development Centre, Haven Society, Cedar Woman House, Salvation Army Church Nanaimo, MCFD: CYSN Division and Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Health Centre (Building Better Babies & Creating Healthy Families programs). These agencies refer existing clients who are currently active in their programs.
