This week, we are so fortunate to have an interview to share with Andrea Huhn, the Good Food Box Program Coordinator with Nanaimo Foodshare.
What is included in a Good Food Box?
There is an average of 7 – 9 different fruits and vegetables in each week’s Good Food Box. We try to purchase as many local items as possible, however it depends on the seasonal availability and cost. The cost of the Good Food Box is $15, $10 or in some instances, no cost. The value of the fruit and veggies is roughly $20-$25 at a grocery store.

Do clients need to submit income information to qualify to purchase a Good Food Box?
No. There are no income requirements or financial information needed. Anyone can purchase a Good Food Box.
Is delivery available? If so, how can delivery be arranged?
Yes. We have an amazing team of volunteer delivery drivers in the Nanaimo and Parksville area. You can sign up for delivery when you order your Good Food Box. There is currently no additional cost for delivery. However, we encourage those people who can pick up their Good Food Box to do so. There is often an excess of produce leftover and those people who can pick up their GFB at one of our depots can get access to these extras.

What are the best ways for the local community to support the Good Food Box program?
There are several ways to support the Good Food Box Program, such as: Ordering a Good Food Box at $15 (this covers the cost of food and supports the running costs of the program).
Volunteering with the Good Food Box Program on Thursdays as a packer, delivery driver or a GFB depot representative dispersing Good Food Boxes to those community members that have purchased one.
Another way to support the GFB program is to make a donation via our website links www.nanaimogoodfoodbox.com or www.nanaimofoodshare.ca
