BC persons with disabilities receive discounts on car insurance & gas costs

Since we are almost at the end of 2023, I pulled out my stash of gas receipts for the year to add up and submit for a refund on the tax paid over the course of the year.

In BC, disabled people can apply to receive 25% off their ICBC vehicle insurance, as well as a refund on the tax they pay on gas.

To apply, the first step is to click HERE to visit the provincial government’s website for the Fuel tax refund program for persons with disabilities. If you are on PWD (Provincial Disability) it’s easy to be approved. There are other categories for approval, or you can have a doctor sign a form.

Once you are approved for the Fuel tax refund program, you will receive a letter that you can take to your local vehicle insurance provider, and they will apply a 25% discount to your insurance.

***I recognize that I am privileged, not only to have a car, but to have access to a secure home where I can store receipts, a computer or smart phone to process these applications, a calculator to add up totals, and a printer to make hard copies of applications.

If you need support to process and submit this application, please check out the Employment & Paperwork section of this site.
