Thanks for taking the time to check out Poverty Advocacy Nanaimo.
I’m Sarah, the founder.
Like most people living below the poverty line in Canada, being low-income wasn’t my life’s plan. But, when I became too sick to work, it was the natural consequence.
What I quickly discovered as I navigated life in poverty was that the secret to survival is to locate a number of programs that I could use to support my needs.
Each program was like a puzzle piece that I could collect, and eventually I was able to collect enough puzzle pieces and assemble them to feel financially and mentally stable.
The challenge lies in the fact that most low-income people are so busy surviving that they don’t have time to search for puzzle pieces!
It’s my hope that PAN can offer a short-cut, and enable Nanaimo residents to thrive in the face of economic challenge.
Take a look at the Resources page, scroll down to the area where you need support, and take a look at the suggestions listed. Keep in mind that the website is a work in progress, so please continue to check back.
Also, follow PAN on Facebook and Instagram. Our social media will be focused on sharing current programs and opportunities for low-income people offered by local organizations. I will also be sharing posts from this blog on our social media, following news developments as they relate to the many Canadians who live below the poverty line.
Grateful for your support!
-Sarah
